The Rocket Grant Awards
The Rocket grant was established to honor Rob Bartel who died May 10, 2020. Rocket was his nickname and since he was a lifelong engineer, we think focusing on STEM activities is an appropriate way to remember him.
Nominations are accepted at any time for projects meeting the mission of the grant.
Apply Here Rocket Grant Policy and ProcessThe first Rocket Grant provided STEM activities to a preschool co-op in Portland, where Rob lived most of his adult life. The director of the school wrote:
“This grant truly enhanced and transformed our science and math curriculum. It provided us hands on experiences, props, books, visuals and games. This year’s students were the first to use these new “toys” but they won’t be the last to wonder, collaborate, problem solve and benefit from using them. GPPS students explored; fossils, snowflakes, weather, dental health, building; weight and measurement, ramps & incline slides, recycling, space, seeds and a slew of different insects.”
The Board of Directors plans to award a minimum of two grants a year to an organization, program, co-op, or teacher with principal approval. The second grant went to the Nora Stewart Early Learning Center in Columbia who will receive STEM related activities for each of their classrooms. Additional grants have been awarded to the Boys and Girls Club in St. Charles and Dr. Annie Arnone for her work in projects educating future teachers in teaching STEM courses.
